Was it a perfect afternoon on Jackadder Lake?  Almost but not quite!  Maybe there were one or two too many shifts, but maybe that made the racing interesting! The A Class had an ideal setting for the 2009 State Championships.

There were 7 A Class enter the regatta. A couple of regulars were unable to attend unfortunately. Over the course of the afternoon, 16 races were completed, with a couple of breaks so that skippers were not totally exhausted at the end of the day.

All skipper had A rigs up, but the boats were right at the limit of control. Just as skippers were thinking of dropping to B rigs, the wind abated slightly, resulting in perfect A Class weather.

For the first half of the regatta, racing was really tight. Half way through, there were 2 skippers on 23 points, two on 25 points and another on 27. Hub Bell and Graeme Howie led the way from Roger Paul and Jeff Green. Gary Cotterell was lurking just behind the leaders.

Unfortunately, Alan Beer and Bink Frayne experienced some gear damage. Bink ending up with only the top half of the rudder, and Alan's winch line snapped.

The second half of the regatta was a different matter. Gary Cotterell got his Sword wound up, and proceded to reel off a series of race wins, to impose authority on the result. He won 7 of the last 9 races, whilst the rest of the fleet continued to battle for second.
